This is something I painted years ago when thinking about the story of kindness. Some believe that it's okay to tell a "white lie"to someone in order to save hurt feelings. Others believe that radical truth reigns above all, no matter how dark it may be. In the White Lies painting, the word "lies" glows in the dark. The Dark Truth painting doesn't glow, but the truth is still there in the darkness.
Since art is really one's perception, I won't explain too much more of my own mindset and allow you to discover your own interpretations of these modular paintings. They are painted with a gritty sand texture and since nothing is every truly black and white, there are subtle greys.
"Art is something that makes you breathe with a different kind of happiness." --Annie Albers.
I used to paint quite a bit, and somewhere along the way, I lost my confidence. I couldn't paint because my idea wasn't perfect;paralysis by analysis. I still struggle with this, but I'm hopeful that I'll overcome the fear of judging myself and let my brush loose once again.
That said, I laugh, as I realize these aren't "paintings" in the typical nature of beautiful landscapes, characters, or even abstracts - I'm not fooling myself here! These are ideas that were created with paint, not necessarily a typical "painting", but it's still art. That is what makes art so magnificent to me - that it can have many faces. We may look at a painting or piece of art and think it's no big deal, we can do that. And then you have other works of art that people will pay significantly for because it touches them in some way. So when I look at say, a painting, I'm more often thinking about what the artist was thinking, feeling, imagining more than just merely looking at the image - it can be a portal into their mind. But then again, my friends all think I'm strange, so there's that...
Whether it's painting, acting, dancing or performing on stage - it's all art and I love all of it. This is my guest performance for a fitness show and I sewed the costume from one long piece of material. I always choose my music first to tell my story;I love the lyrics of this song. Watchmen, a great movie and study of characters (though not MCU). The heartbeat in the song gives me chills, and hearing Rorscharch whisper, "No," always makes me laugh. You never want to be too little, too late.
Lyrics:
Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate
Is it bright where you are?
Have the people changed?
Does it make you happy you’re so strange?
And in your darkest hour
I hold secret flames
We can watch the world devoured in its pain
Delivered from the past
The last of a line of lasts
The pale princess of a palace cracked
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace
Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us
No one can separate us
For we are all that is left
The echo bounces off me
The shadow lost beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again
